You Have to Keep a Tight Rein On Diabetes

diabetesIf you can keep your blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible it can be a lifesaver. Tight control can prevent or slow the progress of many complications of diabetes, giving you extra years of healthy, active life.

But tight control is not for everyone and it involves hard work.

Your physician will tell you that means you need to get between 70 and 130 mg/dl before meals, and less than 180 two hours after starting a meal.

In real life, maintaining a normal level all the time is not practical. And it’s not needed to get results, but everything you can do to lower your blood glucose level helps to prevent complications.

It is unknown why high sugar levels cause complications in people with diabetes but research has proved that if people keep a tight rein on their glucose levels they lower their chances of diabetic eye disease, kidney disease, and nerve disease, and also far fewer people who already had early forms of these three complications got worse.

If your goal is to live a healthier life with this disease you must pay more attention to your diet and exercise, measure your blood glucose levels, and if you take insulin, change how much you use and your injection schedule.

In intensive therapy, you provide yourself with a low level of insulin at all times and take extra insulin when you eat. This pattern mimics the release of insulin from the normal pancreas.

What many people choose is multiple daily injections of insulin while others choose an insulin pump (both work fine).

With multiple daily injection therapy, you take three or more insulin shots per day. Usually, you take a shot of short-acting or Regular insulin before each meal and a shot of intermediate- or long-acting insulin at bedtime.

With an insulin pump, you wear a tiny pump that releases insulin into your body through a plastic tube. Usually, it gives you a constant small dose of Regular insulin. You also have the pump release extra insulin when you need it, such as before a meal. Your health care team will set this up with you.

When you first begin to get things under control it’s kind of exciting. but overwhelming also. The trick is to be like the Energizer Bunny and keep going and going. Start out with your goals in mind and take things a step at a time.

Start slowly. Start by looking at yourself honestly. If you are still angry and depressed that you have diabetes, you’ll have to adjust to the changes you will have to make in your life.

Keep your goals realistic. No matter how hard you try, your blood glucose readings will not be perfect every time. If they are often too high or too low, talk to your doctor, but if “wrong” levels happen only sometimes, that’s falls under the category of things happen, you’ll get better over time.

Doctors believe that tight control can also prevent complications in people with type 2 diabetes.

One way is to lose weight. Shedding excess pounds may bring your glucose levels down to normal. The key to losing weight and keeping it off is changing your behavior so that you eat less and exercise more.

Even if you don’t need to lose weight, exercise is helpful in controlling your blood glucose levels. It makes your cells take glucose out of the blood.

If exercise and good eating habits are not enough to keep your glucose under control, you doctor may prescribe pills. And if these don’t work, you may need to take insulin.

Can I Really Lose Weight by Using Ephedrine Products

The ECA Stack is a component found in thermogenic weight loss pills, composed of ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin working to speed up the metabolism and thus cause calories to burn faster and result in weight loss. Anyone with high blood pressure or heart problems should not take the stack. Benefits of Ephedrine, ephedrine increases metabolism, ephedrine suppresses appetite, ephedrine preserves muscle tissue, ephedrine treats symptoms of asthma and upper respiratory infections.

Ma Huang (Ephedrine) has been shown to increase the effectiveness of thermogenesis (fat burning) in the body. It contributes to the release and blocks the re-uptake of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine. This gives norepinephrine the ability to continuously stimulate receptors in your body, causing fat cell “flood gates” to open and facilitate fat loss resulting in weight loss. Not only does ephedrine increase the rate at which fat is lost, it preserves muscle at the same time, making it an ideal dieting aid for athletes. The most comprehensive look at ephedrine for weight loss is a recent meta-analysis published in The Journal of the American Medical Association. This meta-analysis was done by the request of the US Department of Health and Human Services. It reviewed 44 controlled trials on the use of ephedrine for weight loss. It found that on average, it increased weight loss 1.3 lbs. per month more than placebo. However, combinations of ephedrine or ephedra with caffeine or herbs containing caffeine resulted in an average weight loss of 2.2 lbs. per month. Through nutrient repartitioning, ephedrine promotes fat loss while preserving fat-free mass.

Is Turmeric a Super Spice

turmeric plantTurmeric has been known for a long time to have promoted healing. Turmeric root improves circulation, digestion, and reduces inflammation. The traditional Indian diet uses this spice a lot. It has a bright brilliant color. Turmeric’s main ingredient, curcumin, has been shown to have a wide variety of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Because of the amount of turmeric in the daily curries of elderly citizens of India may be one of the main reasons they have very low incidences of Alzheimer’s disease.

As the western world gains more insights into how curcumin exerts its benefits, we are beginning to study it more. Researchers at the University of Michigan have found that curcumin incorporates itself into cell membranes and makes them more orderly. This lets the membranes control the flow of substances in and out of cells more efficiently, which improves cells’ resistance to infection and malignancy.

The findings were published online March 3, 2009, for the Journal of the American Chemical Society. It’s good to see that the American scientific discovery teams are unraveling the processes behind natural healing. Slowly, we are putting together an impressive body of knowledge about the biochemistry of foods, which will help to bring about a day when doctors or physicians all over the world will be just as likely or maybe even more likely to prescribe dietary change rather than medications.

Pistachio Purchases on Hold

pistachioRemember last winter when we watched the national salmonella outbreak in peanuts unfold, when a Georgia Company shipped contaminated products, well the FDA is now warning people not to eat any food containing pistachios, which could carry contamination from the same bacteria.

Salmonella, the most common cause of food-borne illness, is a bacteria that causes diarrhea, fever and cramping. Most people recover, but the infection can be life-threatening for children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

For nuts, roasting is supposed to kill the bacteria. But problems can occur if the roasting is not done correctly or if roasted nuts are re-contaminated. That can happen if mice, rats or birds get into the facility.

It seems that California-based Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., the second-largest pistachio processor, is voluntarily recalling more than 2 million pounds of its roasted nuts shipped since last fall.

The FDA learned about the problem last Tuesday, when Kraft Foods Inc. notified the agency that it had detected salmonella in roasted pistachios through routine product testing. Kraft and the Georgia Nut Co. recalled their Back to Nature Nantucket Blend trail mix the next day.

The recalled nuts represent a small fraction of the 55 million pounds of pistachios that the company’s plant processed last year and an even smaller portion of the 278 million pounds produced in the state in the 2008 season, according to the Fresno-based Administrative Committee for Pistachios.

California alone is the second-largest producer of pistachios in the world.
According to the company’s Web site, Setton Pistachio is in the corporate family of Commack, N.Y.-based Setton International Foods Inc. The company sells nuts, dried fruit, edible seeds, chocolate and yogurt-coated candies.

By Friday, grocery operator Kroger Co. recalled one of its lines of bagged pistachios because of possible salmonella contamination, saying the California plant also supplied its nuts. Those nuts were sold in 31 states.

Fabia D’Arienzo, a spokeswoman for Tulare County-based Setton Pistachio, said the company was only recalling certain bulk roasted in-shell and roasted shelled pistachios that were shipped on or after September 1.

Because Setton Pistachio shipped tote bags of nuts weighing up to 2,000 pounds to 36 wholesalers across the country, it will take weeks to figure out how many products could be affected, said Jeff Farrar, chief of the Food and Drug Branch of the California Department of Public Health.

“It will be safe to assume based on the volume that this will be an ingredient in a lot of different products, and that may possibly include things like ice cream and cake mixes,” Farrar said. “The firm is already turning around trucks in transit to bring those back to the facility.”

The outbreak is still ongoing. More than 690 people in 46 states have gotten sick. Nearly 3,900 products made with peanut ingredients from Peanut Corp. of America have been recalled.

California public health authorities have taken hundreds of samples at Setton’s processing facility, but lab results have not yet determined whether salmonella was found at the plant. The food companies’ own tests of the contaminated products isolated four different types of salmonella, but none were the same strain as the one found in the peanuts, Acheson said.

Dianobol Powerful Mass Building Supplement

Russian Dianobol is a very strong muscle building agent free of the side effects that steroids offer, which promote insane and enormous buildup of strength and muscle mass in its users. Dianabol is simply a “mass building supplement” which works quickly and reliably. Without a doubt one of the best because it promotes drastic protein synthesis, enhances glycogenolysis (repletion of glycogen after exercise) and stimulates strength in a very direct and fast-acting way. It may be less useful to those competing in aerobic events. But Dianobol proves itself in a distinct manner by rapid and fast-acting build-up of strength and mass is noticed. In my own experience with Dianabol was pretty impressive, in retrospect. I was training very heavy, and eating like a horse and in six weeks I gained respectable mass gains. Granted, it was very watery weight, and did not particularly improve my athletic performance until I dieted off a lot of the water, but I was left weighing roughly 10-15lbs heavier, after several months of being off, and was able to keep those fifteen lbs for good.

It’s Essential to Control Sugars

Keeping your blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible can be a lifesaver. Tight control can prevent or slow the progress of many complications of diabetes, giving you extra years of healthy, active life.
But tight control is not for everyone and it involves hard work.

Good control means getting as close to a normal (nondiabetic) blood glucose level as you safely can. What this means is to keep your levels between 70 and 130 mg/dl before meals, and less than 180 two hours after starting a meal, with a glycated hemoglobin level less than 7 percent. The target number for glycated hemoglobin will vary depending on the type of test your doctor’s lab uses.

There is a supplement from NOW foods called Glucose Metabolic Support that contains a new dietary ingredient that is an extract from the herb Lagestroemia speciosa. The active component called GlucoTrim is corosolic acid, has been the subject of scientific studies that demonstrates its ability to support healthy blood sugar levels by helping to transport glucose into the cells.

This tablet also includes an extract from the herb Gymnema sylvestre, a small plant native to India. Extracts of Gymnema have been used for centuries by Ayurvedic medical practitioners for support of blood sugar levels and natural insulin production.

Glucose Metabolic Support does not contain any sugar, salt, starch, yeast, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, milk, egg or preservatives.

A Little Calcium Goes a Long Way!

Calcium is one of the most important nutrients your body needs to maintain health. It is essential to meet many of your bodies needs. Calcium play an important role in many body functions and development. Knowing how much calcium you need daily and where to get it can ensure that your body will reap the benefits of this great nutrient.

Calcium does many things for your body. Everyone knows calcium is beneficial to bones and teeth. It is also important to keep your muscles and nerves working properly. It helps blood clot and keeps your heart beating properly. Lacking calcium in your diet can greatly effect your health now and in the future.

When your body does not get enough calcium it begins to take it from the bones. When this happens, if the calcium is not replaced through your diet the bones become deficient in calcium. This can lead to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease where the bones get thin and brittle. It is fast becoming a major disease among older adults. Calcium is important at any age. For children calcium is essential to ensure proper bone growth. In pregnant women calcium intake is also important. The baby needs calcium to grow and takes this calcium from the mother, so increased calcium intake is important during pregnancy. Some guidelines for calcium are 1,200mg a day for children age 1-10, 1,500mg a day for age 11-24. Pregnant and breast feeding mother should get 1,400mg a day and older adults should have 1,500mg a day. It is very difficult to take too much calcium and intakes of up to 2,500mg have proven safe. Excess calcium is easily removed form the body through waste.

Take a Protein Bar with you

steelbarsEven though it might not seem like it right now summertime is right around the corner and we are going to be outside a lot more often. As I went for a jog this morning I was reminded of how easy it is to take off without taking time for breakfast. I am just trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle, but if I was in a heavier training regimen it would still be essential to make sure that I didn’t go too long in between eating.

I had run out of my supply of Protein Bars and after a while my stomach complained to me about it. Usually I keep plenty of tasteful energy-boosting bars like Steel Bars around to help maintain the ideal weight that I am trying to reach by summer. There’s no sense in having a great regimen if you don’t have the energy to carry it out.

There are a few things I try to watch out for when I buy protein bars. First of all, look at the fat content. Try to avoid protein bars that have more saturated fat than a cheeseburger. I just scan the label real quick. I don’t want this to be my whole days requirements in one bar.

Second, because I am a male, I look for a protein bar that doesn’t have a lot of iron content. Men don’t need as much iron as women, and if you look at high quality men’s multivitamins you will see that they contain no iron. Some protein bars have 100% of the recommended daily allowance of iron, and there is no reason for that, so avoid those bars at all costs (women can disregard this advice). You may also have noticed that iron has a funky smell and can completely ruin the taste of a protein bar.

Finally, those of you who are carb-conscious may want to check the carb levels to make sure they fit within your acceptable limits. I usually have a glass of water along with my protein bar because it helps wash it down, and also helps keep me hydrated along with settling my stomach.
