I have come to love fish oil
As a recent quintuple bypass survivor, one of the things I learned in rehabilitation was a need to maintain a well balanced lifestyle. One piece of that was to keep Cholesterol and Triglycerides in their proper ranges.
As a meat and potato type of guy, eating more fish and chicken seemed like the impossible dream to me. I may have found a way around the fishy part though.
I do understand that it is important to get adequate nutrients by eating a variety of foods in moderation. I have found that taking a fish oil tablet three times a day when I eat may be one reason why my triglycerides are coming down.
Fish intake has been associated with decreased risk of heart disease. On the basis of available data, the American Heart Association recommends that patients without documented heart disease eat a variety of fish preferably omega-3-containing fish at least twice a week. Examples of these types of fish include salmon, herring and trout.
My Doctor says for people with high triglycerides (blood fats), 2 to 4 grams of EPA + DHA per day, in the form of capsules can’t hurt, as long as I eat properly and exercise too.
So there you are. That’s my story … And I’m stickin to it!
