The Workout Buddy

Wednesday, February 9, 2011 @ 01:02 PM
posted by Jeffery mason

Nothing makes working out easier than a gym buddy. If you do not believe it, here are some reasons why you need to find a workout companion.

  • Determination

Nothing spurs competition like a friendly rivalry. Having someone there with you will push you further than you ever thought possible. You will drive those moments of weakness away, because you need to go that one extra rep, that one extra mile, that one extra set, just to prove you are better than your gym partner. With both of you feeling this way, you will see some intense results.

  • Motivation

Getting up and active is extremely tough, at times, but a workout pal can make it easier. Rather than constantly trying to motivate yourself, you have someone there with you, pushing you along, and trying to get you in shape. Feel that tinge of unwillingness to workout? Your gym buddy will be there to make sure you get your heart pumping, as long as you do the same for them.

  • Entertainment

A friend can help make the time pass quicker. Let’s be honest, sometimes working out really is not that fun. You gripe and moan and complain about having to do another rep, another lift, or how sore your muscles are, so you get in a bad mood and regret working out. A little cheer from your gym buddy can get you back on your lively feet.

  • Socialization

Some athletes find it hard to fit socialization and working out into the same schedule. Normally, one is sacrificed for the other. With a workout partner, you can fit both of them in at the same time. You talk, you laugh, you sweat, you lose weight, and it all comes in the package of a friendly face.

  • Affordability

Some gyms offer a special on personal trainers if they are teaching two people. Rather than spend a load of money on a personal trainer for yourself, you spend less for a trainer that both of you share. This gives you the access of a workout professional, but it keeps your wallet fat.

  • Larger Gains

All of the previous reasons combine into one simple thing: larger muscular gains. Having a gym buddy may sound odd or goofy or whatever, but it is definitely a helpful addition. It’s no bodybuilding supplement, but it might as well be considered one.

The Amazing Workout Effects of Water

Monday, February 7, 2011 @ 12:02 PM
posted by Jeffery mason

Water makes up roughly seventy percent of the human body. From maintaining blood flow to building muscle and healthy skin, water plays a crucial role in nearly every bodily function. Without it, we would be nothing more than a dehydrated bag of flesh and bones. Yet, there is more to water than originally meets the eye, especially if you are looking to lose weight and work out.

Mental Clarity

If your body is poorly hydrated, some systems are going to slow down. Even slight dehydration can lead to reduced alertness, impaired short-term memory, and an overall sense of tiredness. Rather than performing at your usual 100%, you are running sluggishly slow, and your mind is unable to process information as quickly. Any tasks that require mental focus, for example, will be more difficult. Working out and focusing on a diet, to tie it into weight loss, will become much more difficult, because you no longer feel focused on the end result.

Workout Results

Poor hydration can actually lead to poor workout results. Similar to the mental sluggishness, your physical performance will be lacking, too. Since proper hydration determines the effectiveness of blood flow, your body will be lacking the nutrients needed to get through a tough workout, along with delivering vital nutrients after a workout to the injured muscles. In addition, properly hydrated muscles are at less of a risk for injury, since the muscle fibers will be more loose and limber.

Weight Loss

Water has an amazing effect on both the mind and the stomach. Besides being the most important thing for us, it can also help control our weight loss capabilities. Drinking water before a meal will initiate your metabolic system and decrease the amount of food consumed during that meal. If you continued to drink water throughout the day, consuming at lease 51 ounces, you could potentially increase your yearly caloric burn by 17,400 calories. All of this comes from simply drinking more water and keeping your system hydrated.

How Much Water

To figure out exactly how much water you should be consuming,  consult a medical professional. Depending on age, health, amount of activity, and weight, the amount of water you need to consume can vary greatly. A medical professional will help determine the correct amount to maximize your workout results. Drink up, stay active, and keep developing your body.

The Importance of a Support System

Regardless of the reason why you work out, a support system is crucial for your ability to succeed. From losing weight to putting on muscle mass, you need something backing you up the whole way. This support could be a friend, an online community, a nutritional supplement, or a personal trainer. If you do not have a support system now, we are going to breakdown some of the more popular ones out there, so you can look them over and decide for yourself.

  • The Online Community

There are countless bodybuilding and weight loss forums out there these days. Even bloggers have gotten into the business of helping people lose weight (myself included). With so many to choose from, it can be difficult to find the right place for support. When choosing, remember, you need a place that gives you some feedback on your questions, or a place that invites you to join conversations. You want to feel like you have somewhere to go to when you need someone to listen.

  • Gym Buddies

Finding a gym buddy is not the easiest thing in the world, but it can be the best support system to have available. The online community will not physically see your progress. A gym buddy, however, will be there with you all the time, pushing you along, encouraging you to work harder. They will see the changes take place, and you can feed off each other for motivation. If your buddy improves, you will feel compelled to do so, too.

  • Exercise Programs

If you find you work better in large groups, an exercise program would be ideal. This allows you to keep your anonymity, yet you are around others who enjoy working out just as much as you. You will not feel alone in your struggle of physical empowerment. You may even find the perfect post-exercise-program gym buddy, who will continue to cheer you on and get you sweating. You must find the exercise program that fits your needs, of course.

  • Paid Programs

There are some programs out there, like Weight Watchers, where you have to pay to gain access to their services. One of the more fundamental services offered in exchange for payment is a support system, which you can access any time you need it, online. Obviously, this is going to be more expensive than some of the other options, but you may come out more on top, due to the constant support from professionals within the field.

Four Workout Don’ts

Friday, February 4, 2011 @ 02:02 PM
posted by Jeffery mason

Let’s be honest for a bit, working out is one of the best things you can do for your body. It helps get your heart pumping, your muscles working, and it even activates some of your internal systems, flushing them of toxins and stored chemicals. In addition, you build muscles and lose weight, ensuring that your body looks and feels good. Unfortunately, there are some workout pitfalls that can entrap an individual, sending them spiraling into a state of muscular stasis. Here are four ways to help you get the most out of your workout:

  • Actually Exercising

Some people, whether you go to the gym or workout at home, will talk and think about working out more than actually working out. You say you are going to exercise for an hour, yet you talk for fifteen minutes and then exercise for forty-five. You cannot workout unless you just do it. Do not think about it, do not talk about it, just do it. You need to get your body moving, get your heart pumping, and take the steps toward the body you want. All the talking in the world will not do it for you.

  • Exercise Equipment Customization

Some exercise machines  let you customize your workout resistance. Using the treadmill as an example, you can set the speed, the time, and the incline of your walk or run. Unfortunately, some individuals pass up the chance of increasing their treadmill’s incline. This simple act of denying the use of a customizable feature could cost you hundreds of unspent calories, overtime. Utilize your exercise machine options and get the most out of your workout.

  • The Same Workout

Performing the same exercise every single day is going to lower the overall calories burned. Your body becomes tolerant to the exercise, because it has built up a muscular resistance to the repetitive motions. Changing up the exercise you perform could exponentially increase the amount of calories you burn per workout.

  • Idle Hands

When you get really tired, you may want to utilize the handlebars of a workout machine to rest yourself against it, but this is not a habit you want to incorporate into your workout routine. Resting your body against the handlebars could inhibit the burn of calories. Rather than using caloric energy to maintain muscular strength when holding up your body, you are resting it, giving it a break, letting all of those calories remain inside your body.

Strength: The Basis of Working Out

Wednesday, February 2, 2011 @ 12:02 PM

Working out and lifting weights is about strengthening your muscular tissue. The stronger this muscular tissue becomes, the more prone your body is to build it. Additionally, you are more likely to burn fat once your body has reached a muscular state. The combination of weight loss and muscular strength creates a physique that has endurance, speed, athleticism, and lean muscle mass. Here are some tips to help you strengthen your body.

1. Simple: When performing reps, keep it simple and count the number of reps you perform. Some trainers would have you count the rep speed, but it really is not a necessary addition to a workout. Your job is to focus on the weight management aspect of lifting. Get it up, get it down, and maintain a balance throughout your body. Notice any sudden changes in muscular endurance, or how heavy your breathing becomes after each lift. The more in-tune you become with your body, the more success you will have with lifting.

2. Data: Keep a data log of how many exercises your performed each day. Track your progress overtime so you can literally see the changes occurring throughout your body. It can be a huge motivational boost to notice how many more reps you can perform now compared to a couple weeks ago. Working out requires a constant source of motivation and a data log could be that source for you.

3. Cardio: Muscular endurance is only half the battle. You also need cardio endurance. Your lungs must be trained to absorb large quantities of air, with your body efficiently delivering that air throughout your system. If you are lifting, your muscles require a huge supply of air, and untrained lungs will pale in comparison to the lungs of a runner. Get outside, get active, and get your cardio game going.

4. Progress: Slowly increase the amount of time you exercise and the weights you use. Do not over exert yourself all at once. If you are feeling great one day, perform the same exercise for a longer period of time. Suddenly adjusting your weight levels can potentially damage your body and leave you sore for days. Muscular progress happens slowly.

5. Supplements: Bodybuilding and lifting is a rigorous hobby. You need to monitor your diet, your weight, your sleep, everything has to be watched. To ensure that your body is maximizing its potential, you should be supplementing various nutrients into your daily diet. Protein, for example, is the perfect workout supplement for anyone looking to build muscle mass. Utilize it to increase your muscular growth rates.

Do you have a Body Building Plan?

There are countless supplement companies out there trying to snatch people up under their advertisements and unmitigated claims. This is nothing something you want to fall prey to. Instead, you should be using your head and planning out how to get yourself the better body you want. If you are ready to take the first step into the world of fitness, or you are looking for a way to improve on your physique, here are three simple steps for you:

  • Diet

Before you even start to exercise, or even think about exercising, you need to focus on your diet. No pill, or pills, can replace the conventional foods you have come to enjoy throughout your life, but you need to learn how to manage them. Obviously, you should not be downing ice cream and soda for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You need the nutrients that will get you the results you want. To do this, you should plan out your meals ahead of time, even if it is only a couple days in advance. This will help you maintain focus on the overarching goal: your health and your body.

  • Exercise

To build muscle and burn fat, you need to move around and do stuff. This could be running, lifting weights, cleaning the house, shoveling snow, or raking leaves, all it has to do is get your muscles working. The more you move around and perform repetitive motions, the harder it becomes for your muscles to actually perform those movements. This is how muscle growth is encouraged: you move a muscle until it becomes tired, but you continue anyway, forcing it to push beyond its usual state. Now you have induced some muscular activity that may promote muscle growth.

  • Supplements

Only when you have managed a healthy balance of diet and exercise should you move into the realm of supplements. You must create the internal environment capable of utilizing the nutrients and ingredients in the supplements to actually see the results that you want. Plus, the supplements are designed to ‘supplement’ your workout abilities, not hand you the results you want on a golden platter. When you want to get some serious muscular growth going on, grab some supplements and continue maintaining a healthy routine of diet and exercise. Your body will be one step closer to the perfection you dream about.

Is Your Summer Shape Up Program On Track?

    Wednesday, June 16, 2010 @ 02:06 PM
    posted by Leslie Rae

Summer fitness is alive and well. Looking at any number of fitness magazines you can see that is clear. The pages are filled with beach themed workouts demonstrating various exercises that promise to tone and tighten everything from arms and back to legs and tummies.

The articles want you to think with a few easy, light weight moves with give you bodies like the models featured. The reality of the situation is that unless you were blessed with amazing genetics, you have to work hard to achieve the body you want. You will have to sweat to burn fat and you will have to move weight to build muscle.

This is not the same as if your goals were to be a bodybuilder. So many women are afraid of lifting weights because they do not want to “get bit.” It won’t happen unless you dedicate your life to it! Lifting moderate-heavy weights will not produce bodybuilder-ish muscles over night.

If you happen to be one of the few who develop muscle tissue easily, you will have warning. Even the best muscular genetics do not produce results over night.

Something else that will help moderate your goals is your nutrition. Just because you are working out for an hour a day doesn’t mean you can or should start eating more (unless you weren’t eating enough). Many people think because they are working out they can afford to eat more. That just isn’t the case. When you are working out, the average number of calories that are burned are not as high as you would think. A 140 pound woman running a constant 7 min mile for an hour only burns 740 calories. Unless you are running hard for an hour, skip the extra treat! There are many supplements designed for the exact fitness goal you have and will help you reach yours quicker.

If your goal is to have a nice lean, toned physique, you will have to pick up the weights or do some type of resistance/strength training. Just being a cardio queen and spending your workout on the treadmill will produce a skinnier version of where you already are; the term is skinny fat.

By simply adding three days of strength training (it can even be one of those power-flex classes), you will receive much better results. Another thing to keep in mind is that it is better to do your cardio after your strength training if you are training both in the same day.

Make sure you are working hard at what ever you do or you might as well be window shopping. If it were easy, there wouldn’t be such a need for article after article to get fit.

    Kre-Alkalyn Creatine

    Thursday, May 6, 2010 @ 10:05 AM
    posted by Big Red Hulk

Kre-Alkalyn creatine has been out for some time now but many are just now hearing about its muscle building ability. Many of those who are looking for discounted creatine supplements don’t need to worry about te price of Kre-Alkalyn because many times you can find a month supply for under $15.00! With muscle building supplements you always want to find a safe and effective creatine Kre-Alkalyn is the way to go.

Everyone can benefit from Kre-Alkalyn supplementation. Athletes can benefit from enhanced immune system function and increased muscle mass and functional strength that may be seen from creatine use. Seniors may benefit from creatine use because creatine can help to maintain muscle tissue. Muscle tissue protects bone mass from stress and fracture, and creatine may thus help protect muscle tissue, thereby indirectly protecting bone mass.

Kre-Alkalyn is “buffered creatine” that does not convert into creatinine prior to reaching skeletal muscle tissue. Kre-Alkalyn is a nutritional supplement that comes in powder form. It is packaged in a purple caplet that can be administered orally. Kre-Alkalyn is believed to have the benefits of regular creatine, without the associated side-effects of creatine monohydrate use. The efficacy and safety of creatine monohydrate is well established in scientific literature and thus Kre-Alaklyn is believed to have the same ergogenic abilities and safety profile.

Manufacturer product information states that Kre-Alkalyn is processed at a higher PH level than regular creatine monohydrate. It is believed that the conversion of creatine to creatinine is a function of PH level and that conversion of creatine into the waste product creatinine can be halted by PH level manipulation during the manufacture process.

Slowing or stopping the conversion of creatine to creatinine may help the body absorb more creatine, thus lowering the dosages required for beneficial results. This can result in an economic savings for the consumer as less creatine will be required for the same results.

Anecdotal evidence for Kre-Alkalyn has been mostly positive. Many users report a decrease in water retention and the elimination of the infamous “creatine bloat.” Many users also report immediate results and the elimination of the “loading” phase normally required for regular creatine monohydrate use.

    Benefits of Kre-Alkalyn:

    • Two capsules are equivalent to 10 grams of creatine monohydrate
    • Patented, pharmaceutical delivery formula
    • No loading phase

Don’t be fooled by the hype of other products on the market, Take a look at some reviews of what other people think about Kre-Alkalyn.

    Reviews:

“This is one of my best product I brought, awesome product. going on two months using it.”

“THIS STUFF IS GREAT!!! IF YOU WORK OUT IT WILL WORK OUT…IF YOU DONT WORK OUT WELL WHAT CAN I SAY.YOU DO THE MATH!!!!”

“This product has helped me so much in so little time. ive been on it for roughly 3 days and ive already seen some gains! absolutly amazing and its so cheap which helps me even more. great product and the best creatine product i have ever taken”

“Pretty sweet, boosting my recovery quite well”
